Background:
Environwise is a Government programme that offers free independent and practical advice to UK businesses to reduce waste and source and increase profits.
Programme:
- WEEE - The Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment Directive
- Encourage reuse, recycling and recovery
- Improve environmental performance of electrical and electronic equipment
- Products include telecommunications equipment, lighting, tools, medical devices, monitoring and control equipment
- WHEE Guidance draft
- RoHS - Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances
- Whereas the WEEE directive sets minimum levels for recycling that must be met but may be exceeded, the Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances (RoHS) legislation is very explicit about which substances should be restricted and the precise levels that may be tolerated.
- The RoHS Regulations ban the placing on the EU market of new Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) containing more than the set levels of lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium and both polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants from 1 July 2006.
